Architecture AND have completed the design of a major community facility as part of the Redfern Place community housing development, undertaken by Bridge Housing. The building will accommodate a PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Club), relocating and expanding the facilities of the nearby South Sydney PCYC.
The building is part of a broader site development comprising buildings designed by architectural practices Hayball and Silvester Fuller and landscape practice Aspect.

Unusually for a PCYC building, and in response to the dense urban setting, the proposal is multi-storey, with double height multi-court and gymnastics spaces staggered vertically throughout the building. In order to achieve clear and legible movement, a central 'celebratory stair' is integrated, providing visual connection between all levels of the building and supporting intuitive wayfinding.

The design has been informed by a comprehensive stakeholder engagement process, including client, end-user, community providers and community members, with inputs provided through a 'design jam' process facilitated by cultural advisory Yerrabingin.
